*KI PATIH WULUNG*
Heroes for Bali presented to the world
Panca Pandita: Mpu Geni Jaya and his younger brothers Mpu Semeru, Mpu Kuturan, Mpu Pradah and Mpu Gana are five panca pandita from Java Dwipa who once faced King Airlangga in the Kingdom of Kediri. Their arrival was mainly to develop and organize the island of Bali on the orders of Bhatara Paçupati. Those who continued their journey to the island of Bali were:
1. Mpu Semeru who lived at Besakih Temple Karangasem
2. Mpu Gana who lived at Basic Bhuwana Temple, Gelgel Klungkung
3. Mpu Kuturan who lived at Çilayukti temple, Padang bay Karangasem.
4. Mpu Pradah lived in Pajarakan, Kediri and Mpu Genijaya.
5. Mpu Geni Jaya (1157) had 7 sons (Sapta Pandita) who lived in Kuntuliku, East Java. In 1157 Mpu Geni Jaya went to Bali to visit his younger siblings and then settled at Gunung Lempuyang Temple.
At the time of Mpu Gnijaya's arrival, Bali was ruled by Gajah Waktra (the last ancient Balinese king) along with his governors Kebo Iwa and Pasung Gerigis who ruled Bali in 1337-1343. Then Bali was conquered by the governor Gajah Mada from Majapahit. After being conquered, *Mpu Jiwaksara*, the 6th generation of Mpu Geni Jaya, was appointed as the top leader of the Majapahit government in Bali with the title *Ki Patih Wulung*. His father, Mpu Wijaksara, Mpu Dwijaksara also came to Bali and he was the first priest from Majapahit who regulated the religious system in Bali after Bali fell into the hands of Majapahit.
For almost 7 years (1343-1350) Ki Patih Wulung (Mpu Jiwaksara) was awarded by Ratu Tribuana Tunggadewi as Adipati (King) in Bali with the title Kiyai Gusti Agung Pasek Gelgel proposed by Mahapatih Gajah Mada. Then in 1350 Ki Patih Wulung (Mpu Jiwaksara) went to Majapahit to report to the Queen of Majapahit, namely Tribuana Tunggadewi, about the situation in Bali which was well organized and at the same time requested that a king in Bali be quickly appointed as the representative of the Majapahit government. This application was submitted because in fact Kiyayi Gusti Agung Pasek Gelgel (formerly Ki Patih Ulung) was a Brahmin with the empowerment of Mpu Jiwaksara - an Mpu (Brahmin) who had left the gym for a long time to become a Brahmin. This request proves that Ki Patih Wulung (formerly Kiyayi Gusti Agung Pasek Gelgel, former Mpu Jiwaksara) was a Brahmin who was not thirsty for power (d/h Throne, Wealth and Women), and did not want to maintain his position as King-despite the odds. This was given by Mahapatih Gajah Mada, and approved by Queen Tribuwana Tunggadewi. Finally, one of the sons of Danghyang Kepakisan, namely Dalem Ketut Kresna Kepakisan, was appointed king in Bali, based in Samplangan, which in its development moved to Gelgel (now Kelungkung Regency). Such was the magnanimity of the Brahmin warrior Mpu Jiwaksara (Ki Patih Wulung) who sincerely and willingly handed over his position as King who had been successful in his administration within a span of 7 years. And finally, it is the unique and beautiful Island of the Gods called Bali that we can enjoy to this day.
